About Your Neighborhood
Downtown Midland is the regional headquarters of Huntington’s Great Lakes Bay Region. Huntington Bank has a long and distinguished history of supporting programs throughout Midwest communities that are designed to enrich the community and create an environment where our children can grow and thrive. The breadth and depth of these efforts range from multi-million-dollar programs aimed at the revitalization of major parts of the region to the individual volunteer efforts of Huntington colleagues at all levels of the corporation. These programs are innovative and creative, and thanks to the partnership between Huntington and local governments and nonprofits, goals have been set and solutions found to area problems. Huntington provides support in a variety of areas including economic development, health care, housing, education and the arts.
Huntington Bank is proud to be a catalyst for positive change in the Great Lakes Bay region. We take this role seriously. These programs underscore the innovation that is a hallmark of Huntington’s efforts to support Great Lakes Bay programs and nonprofits for the long-term.
A Personal Investment in Stronger Communities
Huntington developed a five-year $20 billion Community Plan in cooperation with community organizations throughout the Midwest to ensure the bank’s commitment reflects the needs of people and businesses in its footprint. It includes increased investments in Access to Capital, Affordable Housing and Home Ownership, Community Investment & Lending. As part of the larger plan, $5 Billion has been designated for Michigan, a 5-year plan that was developed in cooperation with the Governor, that is focused on lending, investment and philanthropic commitment and intended to help improve financial opportunities for Michigan businesses, consumers and communities.
Huntington contributed $150,000 through The Huntington Foundation to community organizations in the Great Lakes Bay Region to help provide residents with critical basic needs for food and shelter during this flood emergency. Huntington also implemented financial-relief measures such as a disaster relief loan program and payment assistance for personal credit lines and credit cards, to alleviate economic hardship experienced by its customers in the Great Lakes Bay Region affected by the flooding.
The mission of the Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency, Inc. (NEMCSA) is to provide quality programs and services to strengthen and enhance the self-sufficiency of individuals, families and communities through the best use of financial resources, focusing on those experiencing economic hardship. Prior to Michigan’s COVID-19 “stay in place order” in 2020, funding for utility support had already depleted. With much of its clientele living below the poverty level, Huntington provided funding to help NEMCSA clients get back on their feet after job layoffs or loss.
Northern Initiatives is a non-profit CDFI that provides loans to small business owners and entrepreneurs in Michigan that might not qualify for loans from traditional banks for a variety of reasons. Huntington contributed $50,000 to the organization to support microlending opportunities for small businesses in Northern Michigan and mini-grants to small businesses that needed additional technical assistance to keep their doors open and thrive during the COVID-19 crisis.
