University of Michigan FAQ
Asterisk-Free Checking is a Huntington checking account with no monthly maintenance fee and no minimum balance requirement. Huntington Perks Checking is an interest-bearing account. Perks Checking includes all of the benefits of an Asterisk-Free Checking account; plus, your money will earn interest, you'll receive five free non-Huntington ATM withdrawals per statement cycle1, relationship rate features7, and credit score monitoring2. We're offering this account to University of Michigan students without the standard monthly maintenance fee.
Huntington has several convenient branch and ATM locations. See all of our locations on and near campus.
You can use any Huntington location on or off campus and enjoy all the University of Michigan Student banking benefits.
Switch your account to a Huntington Perks Checking account at any Huntington branch or by calling 800-480-2265. MCard required at account opening.
If you are a student at the University of Michigan, visit any branch or call 800-480-2265 to have a maintenance fee waiver applied to your account.
Bring your University of Michigan MCard. If you have not received your MCard or it is not available, verification can be made by confirming the active status in the online official campus directory.
A Huntington banker can help you with every step of the process. Call the Ann Arbor Northside branch at 734-741-2616 or the Ann Arbor Liberty branch at 734-302-1481 to talk to a banker at these locations.
You can enjoy the convenience of carrying one card. It's all you need! Get cash from any ATM. There are no cash withdrawal fees charged at Huntington ATMs when you use your MCard or Huntington debit card. Use your card to make purchases with a PIN. Feel better about the requirement of using a PIN for your purchases, making it harder for someone else to use if it's lost or stolen.
1. Choose a Huntington checking account.
If you already have a Huntington checking account, go to Step 2. If you don't have a Huntington checking account, you can open one in a branch, online, or by calling 800-480-BANK (2265).
Here's the information you'll need:
- Valid government-issued ID
- Your current MCard
- Your current (US) mailing address
- Your (US) home address
- Phone number
- Social Security number or ITIN, if applicable
- Email address
2. Make sure you have a linkable yellow student, staff, or faculty MCard.
A linkable yellow student, faculty or staff MCard is not expired. If yours is expired, it's not linkable and you will need a new one. Contact the MCard administration office for more info on getting a new card at mcardadmin@umich.edu or visit ssc.umich.edu/mcard/get-your-mcard.
3. Link your MCard at any Huntington branch.
You'll have access to two cards: your MCard and a Huntington debit card. Every Huntington checking account comes with a debit card. You can use your MCard or your Huntington debit card to make PIN-based purchases and ATM withdrawals tied to your checking account, and your Huntington debit card for signature-based or online transactions.
Once your MCard is linked to your Huntington checking account, you can use it to withdraw cash from any ATM, make PIN-based checking account transactions, and still make MCard transactions using the stored value (Blue Bucks, Dining Dollars, campus meal plan) on the card as you do already. Just tell the merchant which account to use when both MCard transactions and PIN transactions are available.
Any time you use your MCard to make PIN-based purchases or ATM withdrawals, you will see these transactions on your Huntington statement. They come out of your checking balance and will appear with your other checking account transactions. Transactions made with Blue Bucks, Dining Dollars, or campus meal plans will not pull money from your checking account and will not show up on your statement. These transactions will be applied to the stored value already on your card.
Stop into any Huntington branch or call 800-480-BANK (2265).
Visit any Huntington branch or call 800-480-BANK (2265) to report your linked MCard as lost or stolen. Do not request a replacement card from Huntington. Contact the access control administrator of all locations where the MCard was used.
For example, if it was used in/for:
- Michigan Medicine - Contact the Key & ID Office. After business hours, contact Security Services 734-936-7890
- Housing meal plans or Blue Bucks - Inactivate your lost card online
MCard ID stations where a new card can be obtained can be found here. Visit a Huntington branch to link your replacement ID to your checking account.
