What is Teen Banking?
Teen Banking is a joint checking account with a debit card for teens that has personalized settings for adults to help keep their spending in line and in the know. They get a little financial freedom, you get the comfort of the bank that looks out for you. Finally, something you can both agree on.
How to Open a Teen Banking Account
To open a Teen Banking account, visit your neighborhood Huntington branch with your teen. Both the teen and adult on the account must be present to open.
Teen Checking Account and Debit Card Features
Crafted for teens, shaped by parents.
Customizable alerts and spending settings
Parents can set debit card limits for merchants and categories—even daily, weekly and monthly spending limits. Plus, lock lost cards with a tap. Set alerts for notifications to help manage the account, such as text or email for low balance, blocked transactions and more^.
No overdraft fees
There's plenty to learn about money without worrying about overdrawing. Teens won't be able to spend beyond their available balance, but even in the rare case an overdraft occurs, a fee will not be assessed. If they need money, you can transfer funds to their account.
No monthly maintenance fee
Teen Banking is free to open and the monthly maintenance fee is waived when adults have an eligible Huntington checking account; otherwise a $5 monthly fee will be withdrawn from the Teen Banking account¶.
Zelle®
Send and receive money fast with Zelle® right from the Huntington Mobile Banking app. Teens can pay back friends or get money from family in moments, with no need to share account numbers.
Physical card, digital access
Your teen gets their very own debit card. They can add it to their digital wallet for mobile payments, and use their debit card with all the popular payment apps.
Special Debit Card Design
A card that grows with them.
Give your teen a debit card that’s as unique as they are. This exclusive design is available to your teen when you open a Teen Banking account.

Teen Banking is a traditional joint bank account and debit card, but it comes with customizable debit card settings to help teens learn responsible money management.
After opening an account, teen account holders will receive their own debit card, which can also be added to a digital wallet and used to make purchases online and in person. As teens use the account and debit card, adult co-owners have transparent oversight and you'll have visibility into each transaction through the Huntington Mobile Banking app or Online Banking.

Answer:
There must always be an adult joint account holder on the Teen Banking account. If the adult joint account holder removes themself as an account owner, the account will be systematically closed.
Answer:
In general, transactions that would exceed the available balance in the account will not be permitted; however, in some circumstances, it may be possible for a transaction to overdraw the account due to network processing rules. For example, a restaurant bill may be authorized for payment because the account has sufficient funds available to cover the bill, but the addition of a tip may result in an overdraft when the transaction later posts to the account. Even in these rare circumstances, there will not be an overdraft fee assessed.
Answer:
Your teen’s transfer limits will not be the same for Zelle, Bill Pay, and external transfers. Anyone under the age of 18, who is a joint checking account holder on any checking product at the bank, will be subject to lower limits. These limits will increase once the minor reaches the age of 18.
