How to Cancel a Lost or Stolen Debit Card
We know it can be unsettling to open your wallet and realize your debit card is no longer there. Whether your debit card was stolen or accidentally misplaced, we’ll help you get through it. Find out who you should contact, how fraudulent charges will be handled, and how to replace a lost debit card.
Keep in mind that having a stolen debit card number is equally as dangerous for your bank account as losing your physical debit card. The most important thing to remember in this situation is to act as fast as you can to avoid any fraudulent activity or bank fees.
Step 1: Contact Your Bank
First, contact your bank immediately if you believe your debit card is lost or stolen. Your next step should be to close that card, so your bank can reissue you a new one. Monitoring your bank account online will also make it quick and easy to see if any unauthorized transactions took place.

Step 2: Address Fraudulent Charges on a Lost or Stolen Debit Card
You may get caught in the unfortunate circumstance where someone has stolen your debit card and has used the money in your account. According to the Electronic Funds Transfer Act (EFTA), you are not responsible for unauthorized charges to your bank account if you inform your bank that your debit card is missing. Any purchases made after you have given them notice will not be your responsibility to pay.
Step 3: Replace Your Lost Debit Card
For lost or stolen cards, call your bank. If you’re a Huntington customer, contact us at (800) 480-2265, and we’ll close your card. You can also visit any Huntington branch to obtain a temporary card while we mail you a new permanent one.
