About Your Neighborhood
Youngstown, Ohio is the regional headquarters of Huntington Bank’s Mahoning Valley region. Huntington has a long and distinguished history of supporting programs throughout Midwest communities that are designed to enrich the community and create an environment where our children can grow and thrive. The breadth and depth of these efforts range from multi-million dollar programs aimed at the revitalization of major parts of the city to the individual volunteer efforts of Huntington associates at all levels of the corporation. These programs are innovative and creative, and thanks to the partnership between Huntington and local governments and nonprofits, goals have been set and solutions found to area problems. Huntington provides support in a variety of areas including economic development, health care, housing, education and the arts.Huntington Bank is proud to be a catalyst for positive change in Mahoning Valley. The leadership and the colleagues at the bank take this role seriously. These programs underscore the innovation that is a hallmark of Huntington’s efforts to support Mahoning Valley programs and nonprofits for the long-term.
We believe in doing the right thing.
Youngstown has suffered from suburban flight and a challenging economy.
Huntington is helping to renew downtown and its classic architecture to bringing businesses back.
One example is the four-story Wells Building, nearly a century old, located in the heart of downtown. Huntington is helping to fund the $5 million renovation project in partnership with the city, state and Federal governments.
When it’s completed, the building will house the offices of Strollo Architects on the main floor while the upper three floors will be converted to 12 apartments. The building, vacant for many years, would have likely been demolished had the project not been adequately funded.
Neglected vacant lots in residential areas can be a magnet for crime and trash dumping -- and a home for unwanted vermin. When that happens, surrounding property values suffer.
To help alleviate the problem, we’ve partnered for the third consecutive year with Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership in Warren to sponsor the Side Lot Incentive Program. This initiative provides residents who buy adjacent residential vacant land the necessary funds to improve it.
Through our support, these homeowners are given Lowe’s gift cards to purchase tools, materials and supplies needed for lawn maintenance, gardening, landscaping and fence installation.
We know how important it is to keep our children safe and protected. That’s why we’ve been a proud, 25-year sponsor of WKBN’s Caring for Our Community program.
One goal of the program is to fingerprint Mahoning Valley children through age 12 for Kids Identi-kits provided to parents. With the help of our colleagues, approximately 5,000 children are fingerprinted each year at local schools, community events and shopping malls.
Also as part of the Caring for Our Community program, Huntington associates volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, read to children at local libraries and pick up litter with the Mahoning County Green Team.
When the furnace goes on the blink or a pipe starts to leak, seniors and disabled people often struggle to pay for repairs. To help them, Huntington sponsored applications from Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership and Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority to obtain grants from the Federal Home Loan Bank’s Accessibility Rehabilitation program. These grants provide funds to seniors and disabled homeowners in Warren to make emergency home repairs.
We understand that for some families, making Christmas wishes come true can be difficult, if not impossible. That’s why we’re happy to be a supporter of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Christmas campaign.
Our Belmont Avenue branch in Youngstown served as a one of the major drop off sites for the 2014 campaign for Mahoning and Columbiana counties. In 2013, the campaign, led by the Marine Corps and Navy Reserve units, collected more than 34,000 toys and books, and raised over $48,000 for children in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
Huntington proudly sponsors the Side Lot Incentive Program. Through the Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, this program helps eliminate blight.
It's our pleasure to help revitalize Mahoning Valley neighborhoods. As a partner with the Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, we sponsor the Side Lot Incentive program. This important effort helps beautify neighborhoods and eliminate blight by giving side-lot owners improvement incentives. With gift cards, new owners are able to purchase tools, materials and supplies to help them improve their lots.

Managing and saving money is rarely taught in schools. Huntington has stepped up to fill the gap and teach community members of all ages how to better manage their money.
In 2014, more than 40 of our team members worked with approximately 500 students at Willard Elementary in Warren, and Williamson Elementary in Youngstown. We presented Junior Achievement’s financial literacy program that covers basics such as earning, spending and saving money. Junior Achievement BizTown® is a registered trademark of Junior Achievement USA and JA Worldwide.
Additionally, a team of our bankers presented the FDIC Money Smart workshop to the staff and clients of the YWCA of Youngstown. We talked about choosing and keeping a checking account, managing and improving credit, and consumer rights. We also led a discussion on preventing fraud and ID theft, both extremely important in light of recent cyber attacks in the news.
We believe in the future of the Mahoning Valley, and have devoted time and treasure to support the growth of new businesses. We’re proud to assist the Youngstown Business Incubator through active board involvement and financial support.
The YBI, in partnership with Youngstown State University, is an internationally recognized program designed to develop, nurture and promote technology-based businesses in the region. Fledgling entrepreneurs are provided with targeted resources and services.
Additionally, business counseling, access to financing and critical business and technical support services are provided to new business owners. The YBI has a successful track record leading the Valley to compete in the global technology economy, and currently has 16 companies in its portfolio.
